Company History

1953

April – Gifu Plastic Industry was founded in Kubomi, Gifu City, by its first president, Koei Omatsu.
June – The company introduced its first machine: a 2-ounce vertical molding machine.

1957

April – The “RISU” trademark was established.

1959

November – The company introduced vacuum forming machines and entered the food packaging container business.

1961

January – The “BON CUP” food packaging container series was launched.

1965

The company introduced heat and pressure forming machines, the first of their kind in Japan.

1970

August – The Inuyama Factory was completed and began operations.
December – The Gunma Factory was completed and began operations.

1975

November – Risupack Co., Ltd. was established, and the food packaging business, including the Inuyama and Gunma Factories, was transferred to the new company.
December – The head office was relocated to the Dai Gifu Building in front of Gifu Station in Kanda-machi, Gifu City.

1976

February – The company introduced PSP sheet forming machines and became the first in the industry to implement integrated sheet processing.

1980

March – The company transferred sales authority internally and launched an integrated production-and-sales system.

1987

March – The “High Cooker” series of heat-resistant containers for microwave use was launched.

1988

May – Toshiyuki Omatsu assumed the position of President and Representative Director.

1989

March – The current “RISU” logo was established.
September – The company switched the foaming gas used for PSP sheets from Freon to environmentally friendly butane.

1990

April – The “CLEAN CUP” series of environmentally conscious A-PET containers was launched.

1991

July – The Recycling Center was completed and began operations.

1993

August – The Yamanashi Factory was completed and began operations.

2005

February – PLA containers were registered on the Positive List of the Japan Hygienic Olefin and Styrene Plastics Association.
March – PLA containers were adopted for Expo 2005 Aichi and received recognition from the Japan Bioindustry Association.
April – The PLA “Newto” series was launched.
May – The company began an industry-first collaboration with NatureWorks on PLA container development.

2009

April – The Kanto Factory was completed and began operations in Isesaki City, Gunma.

2011

September – Hybrid containers combining heat-resistant and plant-based materials were launched.

2013

November – “RISUPACK VISION” was exhibited at Tokyo Big Sight.

2016

February – The White PET “PURE WHITE” series was launched.

2017

The RISU Multi Print Service was launched.
December – The company was designated as a Leading Company for Regional Development.

2018

March – Eita Omatsu became the third President, and Toshiyuki Omatsu assumed the role of Chairman.
December – Hashizume Transport Co., Ltd. was acquired as a subsidiary.

2019

The biomass plastic food container lineup expanded to more than 1,800 items.

2023

October – The biomass plastic food container lineup expanded to more than 4,200 items.

2024

September – The biomass plastic food container lineup expanded to more than 5,000 items.

2026

January – The biomass plastic food container lineup expanded to more than 5,800 items.
