Company History

  • 1953
    • Apr – Gifu Plastic Industry founded by its first president, Koei Omatsu, in Kubomi, Gifu City
    • Jun – Introduced the first machine: 2-ounce vertical molding machine
  • 1957
    • Apr – Trademark "RISU" established
  • 1959
    • Nov – Introduced vacuum forming machines and launched food packaging container business
  • 1961
    • Jan – Launched "BON CUP" food packaging containers
  • 1965
    • Introduced heat and pressure forming machines, a first in Japan
  • 1970
    • Aug – Inuyama Factory completed and began operations
    • Dec – Gunma Factory completed and began operations
  • 1975
    • Nov – Established Risupack Co., Ltd. and transferred food packaging business (Inuyama and Gunma Factories)
    • Dec – Head office relocated to Dai Gifu Building in front of Gifu Station (Kanda-machi, Gifu City)
  • 1976
    • Feb – Introduced PSP sheet forming machines and became the first in the industry to implement integrated sheet processing
  • 1980
    • Mar – Shifted sales authority internally; launched “combined production and sales” system
  • 1987
    • Mar – Launched High Cooker series: heat-resistant containers for microwave use
  • 1988
    • May – Toshiyuki Omatsu assumed position of President and Representative Director
  • 1989
    • Mar – Current "RISU" logo established
    • Sep – Switched PSP sheet foaming gas from Freon to eco-friendly Butane
  • 1990
    • Apr – Launched low-pollution A-PET containers: "CLEAN CUP" series
  • 1991
    • Jul – Recycling center completed and began operations
  • 1993
    • Aug – Yamanashi Factory completed and began operations
  • 2005
    • Feb – PLA containers registered on the Japan Hygienic Olefin and Styrene Plastics Association Positive List
    • Mar – PLA containers adopted for Aichi Expo and commended by the Bio Industry Association
    • Apr – Launched PLA “Newto Series”
    • May – Industry-first collaboration with NatureWorks on PLA container development
  • 2009
    • Apr – Kanto Factory completed and began operations (Isesaki City, Gunma)
  • 2011
    • Sep – Launched hybrid containers combining heat-resistant and plant-based materials
  • 2013
    • Nov – "RISUPACK VISION" exhibited at Tokyo Big Sight
  • 2016
    • Feb – Launched White PET “PURE WHITE” series
  • 2017
    • Started RISU Multi Print Service
    • Dec – Designated as a Leading Company for Regional Development
  • 2018
    • Mar – Eita Omatsu became the 3rd President / Toshiyuki Omatsu assumed Chairman role
    • Dec – Acquired HASHIZUME TRANSPORT as a subsidiary
  • 2019
    • Biomass plastic food container lineup exceeded 1,800 items
  • 2023
    • Oct – Biomass plastic food container lineup exceeded 4,200 items
  • 2024
    • Sep – Biomass plastic food container lineup exceeded 5,000 items

Gifu Plastic Industry Co., Ltd. was founded in 1953, during the early days of Japan’s plastics industry. Since then, we have adopted the squirrel as our corporate symbol and have provided a wide range of plastic products across multiple sectors—including household goods, logistics materials, food packaging containers, construction and civil engineering materials, sports equipment, industrial components, and medical-related products.
