Company History
1953
April – Gifu Plastic Industry was founded in Kubomi, Gifu City, by its first president, Koei Omatsu.
June – The company’s first machine, a 2-ounce vertical molding machine, was installed.
1957
April – The “RISU” trademark was established.
1963
March – PVC pipe fittings were launched, marking the company’s entry into the construction and civil engineering materials business.
1966–1967
The “PLA-BUNE,” a plastic tub for plasterers, was launched.
The PVC pipe and fittings factory obtained JIS certification.
1971
April – Risu Kogyo Co., Ltd. was established.
1975
December – The head office was relocated to the Dai Gifu Building near Gifu Station in Kanda-machi.
1981
The Bottom Irrigation System was launched.
1983
The company obtained a construction industry license from Gifu Prefecture.
1984
Pool flooring was launched, marking the start of the sports materials business.
1988
May – Toshiyuki Omatsu was appointed President and Representative Director.
1989
March – The current “RISU” logo was established.
1992
April – “PLA-WOOD,” an imitation wood product, was launched.
1994
April – Nyloplast technology was introduced.
1997
April – Pool course ropes were certified by the Japan Swimming Federation.
September – The company obtained ISO 9001 certification.
1998
June – “PLA-WOOD” was certified as a Gifu Prefecture Recycled Product.
2002
April – Rainwater management systems were launched.
April – “PLA-WOOD” received Eco Mark certification from the Japan Environment Association.
2007
October – “RISU RAIN STADIUM,” a plastic rainwater storage and infiltration tank, was launched.
2008
March – “RISU RAIN STADIUM” received Construction Technology Review and Certification.
2012
March – The PVC pipe fittings business of Risu Kogyo Co., Ltd. was transferred to Toei Kanki Co., Ltd.
2013
March – Course ropes made with bio-based materials were launched.
April – “RISU RAIN STADIUM” was certified by the Association for Rainwater Storage and Infiltration Technology.
2014
March – “3E STEP” was certified as a Gifu Prefecture Recycled Product.
2017
July – Competition lane markers with industry-leading wave absorption performance were launched.
2018
March – Eita Omatsu was appointed President, and Toshiyuki Omatsu assumed the role of Chairman.
2019
January – The “Yawaraka Lane Marker,” the world’s first soft course rope, was launched.
August – “RISU RAIN STADIUM” was certified as a Gifu Prefecture Recycled Product.
2020
March – The company received a construction industry license from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism.
2025
June – The new “RISU RAIN STADIUM GT,” a next-generation plastic rainwater storage and infiltration tank, was introduced as a solution for flood control and localized heavy rainfall.

Gifu Plastic Industry Co., Ltd. was founded in 1953, during the early days of Japan’s plastics industry. Since then, with the squirrel as our corporate symbol, we have continued to provide a wide range of plastic products across many fields, including household goods, logistics materials, food packaging containers, construction and civil engineering materials, sports equipment, industrial components, and medical-related products.
